Mrs. Cathy Zitko

Third Grade Teacher

My name is Cathy Zitko.  I have been in the education field for 21 years. I began my teaching career at Martha Rounds Academy for Children teaching preschool.  I then spent two years as the 1st grade teacher at St. Elizabeth of Hungary in Crestwood, MO.  I have been a teacher at St. Joan of Arc for 17 years and have taught kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, Computer, 5th/6th Language Arts, and 6th/7th Social Studies.

I attended high school at Ursuline Academy where I was involved in choir, drama, musical theater, and the environmental science club. I earned my Bachelor of Science with Elementary Education Certification from UMSL in 1998. I am also a DASH certified teacher (Developmental Approaches in Science and Health.)

I loved my kindergarten teacher and since the age of 5, I knew that I wanted to be a teacher. At the end of each school year, I would beg my teachers for leftover workbooks so I could teach my brother and sisters all summer long.  It wasn’t until I had my own classroom that I realized the part I love most about teaching is the “Aha!” moment when it all comes together and a child discovers they can do it!  They can read on their own!

My husband, Brian (SLUH) and I have been married for 22 years.  We have four children: Josh (CBC, Junior,) Drew and Megan (SJA, 5th grade,) and Josie (SJA, 3rd grade.) We are all active members of Saint Joan of Arc parish and are involved in serving mass, choir, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, soccer, baseball, volleyball, basketball, track, Homecoming, and Flea Market. In my “free time” I enjoy reading, baking, and trips to the beach with my extended family.
